If I have an addiction…it would be to live music. Not big crowded concerts with t-shirts on sale and over priced tickets. No, I like local music. Small bands playing at pubs or coffee shops…or a living room, even a back yard. Musicians who play in small venues are working hard to do something they love. And the must truly love the music to be in these small venues – and their obsession with the music, their love for the experience, that’s what I want to be a part of. . .
Here are the musicians I’ve heard along my way…
|The lovely music at Annie and Art’s party!
here’s a little peak at the goodness of the day
|Trey Hensley and Rob Ickes at the Bluegrass Festival in Raleigh, NC|
|Gregg Gelb Jazz Quartet, @ C. Grace in Raleigh, NC|
|Sean Flemming, at a small Irish pub in Virginia|
|Buku Broux, an amazingly energetic group that I had the pleasure of seeing on the streets in New Orleans. They were everywhere. In Jackson Square, Royal Street and on Frenchman.
|I spent more than one evening at the Spotted Cat on Frechman. One of the first nights I enjoyed the tunes from the Panorama Jazz Band.|
|Spent some time at the d.b.a. Club on Frenchman with DinosAurchestra.|
|Another night at the Spotted Cat with Miss Sophie Lee. She was a treat.|
| Aaron Goldberg Trio at Snug Harbor on Frenchman was phenomenal! I enjoyed the playful interaction between Aaron and Grayson Hackelman – they truly enjoyed the evening.
|Through the recommendations of a couple of friends; I got tickets to see Kermit Ruffins! What a thrill this was!!|
More jazz in New Orleans!!
|Steve Martin is one of my all-time favorite…everything. He’s talented and I enjoy his comedy, his writing, his music and now this…
Bright Star was an award-winning musical, with award-winning music. I was not able to make it to see the show, but I got tickets to the concert while I was in New York City. To add to the joy, Steve and Edie hosted the event.
|While in New York you have to see all the show possible, and a trip to Lincoln Center is part of the joy! Being that I was in New York during the holidays I treated myself to a night of Big Band Holiday Jazz.|
